How accreditation works
From application to register entry, in four stages.
The standard, the questions and the documents required are published before the fee. The fee carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Applicant details
A few questions about the subject to be accredited. No documents and no payment at this stage.

The fee
One fee covers the review, the registrar's decision, the certificate and the register entry. Paying opens the submission.

The submission
Documents, declarations and links to public registers. Sections save separately, so evidence can be collected over time.

Review and decision
A reviewer assesses the submission against the published standard and verifies declared registrations. The registrar decides and publishes the register entry the same day.
Inside the Psychotherapy Practice Accreditation
What the review examines.
The full standard is published before payment. Every section is assessed against evidence an independent reviewer can check.
1. Legal identity and clinical governance
Identify the legal entity responsible for care and show who is accountable for clinical, operational and financial governance.
2. Clinical team credentials and workforce controls
List every person currently providing psychotherapy through the practice and provide evidence that credentials and scope are checked.
3. Scope of practice and service model
Define exactly what the practice provides, to whom, where and under whose clinical responsibility.
4. Client safety and safeguarding
Show the operational controls used to identify, escalate and manage risk to clients and others.
5. Ethics, consent and confidentiality
Provide the documents clients actually receive and the rules clinicians follow when consent, boundaries or confidentiality are in question.
6. Clinical records and privacy
Describe the full record lifecycle and provide evidence of access control, retention and breach management.
7. Supervision and clinical quality
Show how the practice reviews clinical work, supports practitioners and acts when competence or care falls below the required standard.
8. Complaints, incidents and duty of candour
Provide accessible routes for concerns and evidence that complaints and safety events are recorded, investigated and learned from.
9. Facilities, accessibility and remote care
Show that physical and remote settings protect privacy, accessibility, continuity and emergency response.
10. Outcomes and continuous improvement
Report defined measures and review cycles. Testimonials and unqualified success claims are not outcome evidence.
11. Declaration and verification
An authorised person confirms the portfolio is accurate and permits proportionate verification of the evidence.
The register
Anyone can check an accreditation by its number.
Certificates and badges carry a register number. Anyone holding one — a client, student, employer, referrer or professional body — can confirm the subject, the standard and the expiry date without an account.
Who reviews
An independent standards board since 2016.
IPSB is an independent standards body based in Oxford, United Kingdom. Submissions are read by senior practitioners and standards reviewers contracted by the board. No reviewer may assess an applicant with whom they have a professional or financial conflict. Each decision is confirmed by the registrar and entered in the public register the same day.
Accreditation should rest on evidence that an independent reader can check.
